Your display, ready in a few taps.

  1. Preview a theme, then select Use This Theme.
  2. Choose km/h or mph in Settings. Turn on Mirror Display if you want to try a windshield reflection.
  3. Mount your device securely, open Drive Mode, and allow location access while using the app.

Configure the display before setting off. GPS speed is a supplemental reference and does not replace your vehicle’s instruments.

Why does the speed show “—”?

Plaid Dash has no fresh, reliable GPS reading. Check location permission and try a location with a clear view of the sky. Tunnels, buildings, and indoor use can reduce signal quality. The app clears stale readings instead of displaying a made-up speed.

Where did the controls go?

Controls fade after 3 seconds in a theme preview and 5 seconds in Drive Mode. Tap the screen to bring them back. Controls remain visible while adjusting a slider, or while VoiceOver is enabled.

How do I adjust brightness?

In Drive Mode, use the brightness slider or swipe vertically. Night appearance limits brightness. Leaving Drive Mode or moving the app to the background restores the brightness and Auto-Lock setting captured at the start of that session.

Can I use it without a Tesla?

Yes. Speed comes from your device’s GPS. No vehicle connection or Tesla account is required. This version does not connect to Tesla Fleet API and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Tesla.

How can I reduce animation?

Turn off motion in Settings or choose VECTOR. PLAID also pauses decorative motion when stationary, without a valid speed, in Low Power Mode, or under serious thermal pressure. Continuous GPS and a bright screen still use battery.

What devices are supported?

This release requires iOS or iPadOS 26.2 or later. Drive Mode uses landscape orientation. GPS availability and accuracy depend on your device and signal conditions; some iPad models do not have built-in GPS.
